Schnapps (chpt 4 )
'Does that mean she doesn't have any questionable character or ill effect' Tunji cut in ' that's the risk you will have to take, a cammellion doesn't show its true colour it's when you finally marry her into the house 🏠 that's when you will know her true colour, but as far as I am concerned and her utterances have heard she's a good wife to be' Alabi conclude ' oh I'm so happy with this news my friend, more Palm 🌴 wine please and let the merry go round' when men are in love they are tend to behave childishly especially when they hear good news about their wife to be. As Tunji walked in like a new born baby to his house, his father jp Amowe patiently waiting to hear why he is such in a joyous mood. 'ha ba mi eku le' Tunji greet his father ' welcome my son what's the celebration I can see a keg of palm 🌴 wine with you, don't let that your friend Alabi to intoxicates you into being a drunkard' JP Amowe jump 🦘 into conclusion ' no father is Alabi we have to thank when his drunk he doesn't hide his feelings he says the truth' Tunji sounds optimistic ' what did he tell you' his father asked ' well he finally conclude that Ajoke will be a good wife to marry' he declared ' I already know that because I can see the trait of a good character in her so what's the next step' JP Amowe retort ' now I have to go to my in laws house tomorrow to ask about the date for the marriage' Tunji express. While all these investigation about Ajoke lasted Tunji never for once asked himself what Ajoke reaction will be if or when she finds out she's being investigated. Tunji's father is also a good observant what he said about her is on point, when they had their discussion the next day she never raised any questions as to why tunji and Alabi have to investigate her she is very calm under the warm palm of tunji. Truth be told she has nothing to hide ' olowo ori mi my father has given his consent to our marriage' Ajoke annouce ' so what date did he choose for the marriage proper ? He asked ' he said within a month, but I'm worried about the expenses you know your fish 🐟 farm produce has not yield much this season and I know how much you depend on your cash crop for our upkeep' Ajoke remark ' don't let that bother you man cannot live by bread 🥪 alone I'm already trying my hand in other source of income if fish 🐠 farming cannot cover our expenses other venture I invest in can sustain us' Tunji describe.' I'll continue to pray 🙏 for you things are really expensive in the village' she expressed ' how do you know my fish 🐟 farming did not yield much this season? He asked ' my uncle and my father noticed how scanty your farm business looks so I guess that's how they conclude there's problem with the farm' she remark. That's one big issue for those that goes in to rearing of animal business, if the animals doesn't yield it will easily be noticed. When Tunji returns home and about to convey the message he brought back from his in laws house he was reluctant but he must relay the message. When he divulge the discussion he had with Ajoke to his father that's when his father reveals to him the secret in the village. ' my son if you can still remember some months back when people started dying and falling like a pack of cards is due to the fact that there is an oath communion that the community embark upon' JP Amowe disclose ' an oath, why would the community elders embark on such activities' said Tunji 'are they trying to kill everyone in the village' ' don't get me wrong, we cannot put the lives of our children in danger the elders did that to protect everyone from evil doer' JP Amowe explained ' really then why are people dying like there's a scourge in the village' he retort ' you see where the problem emanate from is the item we used to complement the oath, for the oath to be strong elders used the traditional alcoholic drink that our forfathers used to comple the communion' he added ' it still doesn't add up as to why lots of people died' Tunji point out ' the thing is the alcoholic drink will serve as the antedote or maybe I should say remedy to anyone that encounter difficulties in their life or business' he disclose ' I don't understand how the alcohol will be the remedy' Tunji still baffled ' well for instance your fish 🐠 business that your in-laws says looks scanty is due to the fact that your friend Alabi likes to drink and also offers you the drink, that's why you are still able to sustain something from that business otherwise the fish 🐟 farming business would have collapsed' he declared 'hmm this is serious had it been I didn't drink any alcohol that would have been the end of my business' said Tunji ' yes the drink is the remedy, you just have to continue to drink' JP Amowe added. After he digest all what have been by his father he suggest he cannot keep this to himself, he went quickly to Alabi's house, Alabi burst out laughing after Tunji told him everything about the oath ' ha ha ha this our village people will not kill us they want everyone to be a drunkard, that's good I'm already accustom to alcohol the feeble men in the community are the ones I pity because they cannot stand the taste of alcohol' Alabi expressed.
